Starting Hand Psychology
Starting hands affect more than just what cards you get-they also can effect how you play a poker online hand. All the more reason to play your starting hands with a tight state of mind.
I’ve found that in poker onlinegames where I decide to play more loosely with my hole cards I tend to miss more flops and lose more chips to better hands. Also, if I play loosely, I’m aware of how marginal my hands are, which leads my to play more tightly, checking when I should raise (or fold) and missing out on pots that I could have stolen.
On the other hand, if I play tightly with my hole cards, playing only hands that I have confidence in, I find that the opposite happens. I tend to get more advantageous flops, and even if I don’t, I play more aggressively, knowing that my hand is a strong one, leading to more stolen pots, and more money in the long run.
It really comes down to confidence. If you are confident in your hand, you’re going to project that confidence to the rest of your game and it’ll improve your play. If you’re playing with a hand that your nervous about, you’ll have a tendency to play it tentatively, and effectively give up control of the hand. Remember this at the casino online.
