Selected Worker Health and Welfare Projects to Get Government Funding
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced an attractive funding scheme in a bid to highlight the need for improving safety and health systems at workplace. Employers with innovative ideas and concepts on worker health and welfare can bid for the Health Work and Well-being Challenge Fund.
The announcement was made recently by DWP Minister Lord McKenzie. He called upon small and medium size businesses with one to 249 staff members on the roll, to participate in the scheme. Local partnerships have also been allowed to bid for receiving monetary aid through the fund. An amount of 4 million pounds has been allocated for the fund and will be open to bids for the next two years.
The objective of the fund is to improve the job satisfaction of workers and increase their productivity. Lord McKenzie said employers would be assisted to improve the working conditions of their employees so that they, in turn, can focus their best efforts on their work. He added that with better, safer and more conducive atmosphere at work, employees would take less sick leaves.
The funding scheme was announced in 2008 after Dame Carol Black’s review of employee health in Britain. The selection of winning projects will be done by Local Assessment Panels, which will identify and assess these based on the quality of plans to improve the health and welfare of workers. Winning bids can get anywhere between 1,000 pounds and 50,000 pounds per annum.
